As a biocultural anthropologist with an interest in ecology, evolution, and economics, my research and teaching is highly interdisciplinary. My research has its theoretical bases in both biology (particularly evolutionary ecology) and social sciences such as microeconomics, decision theory, and sociocultural anthropology. For the last 3 decades I have helped shape the field of human behavioral ecology, integrating decision theory with evolutionary biology, and testing the resulting models and hypotheses with ethnographic data collected in small-scale societies in the Arctic and Australia.
